Energy Transfer & Insulation

All | Physics | Science | 11-16

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of how energy is transferred from a hotter object to a cooler one
  • Carry out an investigation to compare different types of material to find out which is the best at reducing energy transfer.
  • Understand the different roles onboard a race yacht and the energy transferred by each sailor.

Lesson Description

This Physics resource uses the exciting context of Henri-Lloyd clothing to explore the topic of insulation. Students will investigate how Henri-Lloyd designed clothing for the INEOS TEAM UK America’s Cup team to keep them performing at their optimum. An energy transfer and insulation practical, expands scientific knowledge whilst allowing students to find out more about the roles of each sailor onboard an AC75 race yacht.
