New Fuels

Chemistry | Physics | Science | key stage 3

Learning Objectives

  • To know burning a fuel transfers energy by heating its surroundings
  • To understand heating water in a boiling tube allows the amounts of energy transferred by different fuels to be compared
  • To take accurate measurements and recordings
  • To use apparatus with confidence
  • To understand fair testing
  • Exploration of new fuels e.g. ammonia

Lesson Description

Students will explore the exciting world of new fuels through a real-life context inspired by Berge Bulk ships and the world of sports, in a three-lesson (3 hours of teaching) PowerPoint series rigorously aligned with the national curriculum.
