Lesson Description

In addition to the STEM Crew online curriculum linked learning resources, the Meet the Team videos highlight individuals’ roles within a technology and design driven professional sports team. This will help students to contextualise their learning and allows them to develop knowledge and understanding of the wide range of careers involved in a professional sports team.
This film introduces INEOS TEAM UK's Moving Parts videos, a series of videos showing the team behind the British Challenge to win the America's Cup.

6.Sailing Team- Coach Rob Wilson

Meet Rob Wilson, his job is to coach the team towards their goal of winning the America’s Cup.
7.Rescue Swimmer- Carl Fereday

Meet Rescue Swimmer Carl Fereday, it’s his job to be there every time the team go out sailing to ensure their safe recovery, should anything go wrong.
8.Electronics Technician- Peter Cowell

 Meet Electronics Technician Peter Cowell, making sure all the on the water electronics are fully operational. And monitoring the equipment on board.
9.CFD Engineer- Max Starr

Meet CFD Engineer Max Starr. Computational fluid dynamics, this is an important role that helps INEOS TEAM UK to simulate and analyse the boat performance.
10.Facilities Manager- Mark Rogers

Meet, Facilities Manager Mark Rogers. Responsible for the maintenance of the INEOS TEAM UK base, and the health and safety of the Team and all those who work inside.
11.Head Chef- Nick Holt

Meet Nick Holt, living out his dream. As a lifelong chef with a love of sailing, he could not have found himself a better suited job. Nick joined the team in August 2019 and has not looked back since.
12.Lead Systems Engineer- Andy 'Animal' McLean

Meet Andrew ‘Animal’ McLean both a highly experienced inshore and offshore racer as well as a qualified mechanical engineer. He has a vast amount of experience, having competed for four America’s Cups and in two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race (VOR). All that experience in both sailing and engineering has led him to his current role as Lead Systems Engineer at INEOS TEAM UK.
13.Chief Financial Officer, Matt Robinson

Matt Robinson is INEOS TEAM UK’s Chief Financial Officer, a crucial role in an America’s Cup campaign where any budget decision can have a direct impact on the final outcome in the race to win the Cup
14.Crane Manager, Graham Goff

Graham ‘Grazy’ Goff has a dual role at INEOS TEAM UK. Off the water, he is the crane manager, responsible for all crane operations including lifting Britannia in and out of the water. On the water, he is a support boat driver, responsible for Chase 4, the team’s equivalent to a Formula 1 Pit Wall. It is a combination perfectly suited to Graham, who has spent the majority of his life close to the water and close to boats.
15.Meteorologist and Performance Manager, Juan Vila

Meet Juan Vila as the team’s meteorologist he the ‘eye in the sky’ responsible for helping the team plan anything relating to the weather including briefing the sailing team on what to expect on race day to inform racing strategy and boat set-up
16.Project Director, Dave Endean

Dave is charged with ensuring that all the different working teams within INEOS TEAM UK are all pulling together in the same direction and on the same timeline.
17.Boat Captain, Jeff Causey

The Boat Captain, responsible for ensuring BRITANNIA is prepared for sailing and her crew are as safe as possible every time they head out on the water.
18.Performance Software Developer, Nitin Garg

Our man from Delhi is part of the team designing the most advanced hydrofoils sailing has ever seen.
19.Senior Hydraulics Technician, Andre Bird

Meet Andre Bird, whose career has taken him from the RAF including flying Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family, to now helping BRITANNIA take flight in the America’s Cup
20.Control Systems & Software Team Leader, Will Bakewell

Meet Will Bakewell responsible for the simulation, analysis, and development of BRITANNIA’s control systems and the control strategies that are used to fly the boat.

4. Linking curriculum learning to careers

All teachers should link curriculum learning with careers. For example, STEM subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths.

5. Encounters with employers and employees

Every pupil should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.

By linking the videos to curriculum learning they will help highlight the importance of STEM subjects for gaining entry to a wide range of careers, providing clear evidence of supporting Gatsby Benchmark 4: linking curriculum learning to careers as well as providing an encounter with an employee.
