Learning Objectives
- To understand what climate change is, its causes and its impacts different global habitats.
- Be introduced to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and their role in addressing climate action.
- Explore how athletes can use their platform to drive positive change.
Lesson Description
Teaching about climate change? This resource explores the causes and impacts of climate change, and looks at the positive role athletes and sport can play when they use their platforms to drive positive climate action.
The PowerPoint helps students build knowledge about the issue of climate change, looking at the environmental impacts of sports before introducing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
11-18 year olds will be encouraged to tell their story of the habitat they care about the most, how this habitat is being affected by climate change and what action they will take in their own community to help this habitat.
It also introduces SailGP and The Emirates Great Britain SailGP team, and athletes share insights about how they measure their impact and are taking positive climate action.

The materials can be delivered as part of the formal school curriculum, through school assemblies, tutorial time and/or as a cross-curricular enrichment day.
The materials can be integrated into the following National curriculum areas in England:
- Geography: Pupils will, understand how human and physical processes interact to influence, and change landscapes, environments, and the climate.
- Science: Pupils learn about earth and atmosphere, including the production of carbon dioxide by human activity and the impact on climate.
- Citizenship: Pupils will, understand the different ways in which a citizen can contribute to the improvement of his or her community, to include the opportunity to participate actively in community volunteering, as well as other forms of responsible activity’.

Whilst the materials meet National Curriculum requirements for schools in England, the materials can be adapted for use in other devolved nations and elsewhere

The Power of Movement
Phase III of the INEOS Go Humans Academy ushers in a dynamic blend of athleticism and artistry, focusing on the raw energy of the New Zealand All Blacks and the kinetic power of dance led by renowned choreographer Sherrie Silver.
This series, titled “The Power of Movement” is designed to demonstrate how intentional movement can bridge the gap between mental resilience and optimised performance. Heart Rate And Recovery – Biology Learning Resources
In this Biology resource we use the England Women’s football team to build understanding of heart rate and recovery, and why it is important in sport. Students will use practical activities to test their knowledge of their own heart rate and the time it takes for it to return to resting/normal following exercise. Watch the short starter film to kick off your lesson and hear from England player Jess Carter, and some of the England support team, about the team’s training regime.
