About Connected Cowes

The Connected Cowes project is part of the government’s 5G Trials and Testbeds programme, and explores the use of 5G at one of the oldest and most respected regattas in the world, Cowes Week. This project sees the sailing event go digital,  driving awareness of marine impact, science in sailing and marine technology to engage the next generation of innovators and sailors.  

5G technology was used to stream real-time video, and live data from on-board yachts racing during Cowes Week. As one of the key partners to the project, we have created three brand new exciting resources that demonstrate the uses and benefits of 5G. The resources are linked to specific areas of the national curriculum, and use the context of Cowes Week sailing.
